“When it comes to atoms, language can be used only as in poetry. The poet, too, is not nearly so concerned with describing facts as with creating images.”  — Neils Bohr (Nobel prize-winning Danish physicist)

The Science of Poetry Workshop 2012
* FREE *

Workshop = 2 meetings + 1 public reading
5 poets, 5 scientists
1 month to prepare a poetry performance

1 month prior to the event, poets and scientists meet to discuss themes and subjects and begin generating new work. One poet is paired with one scientist to support each other’s work and process. Each pair writes on the same theme / subject. We meet once again in November as a group to workshop our poems. On December 14 we celebrate our efforts with a public reading and a chapbook to keep.  The first meeting will be November 7 and the public reading will be December 14, 2012 at 1965 Gallery on Main street.

The goal?

  1. To advance our understanding on a scientific subject
  2. To provide a public space to facilitate discussion about the relationship between two traditionally opposed subjects, poetry and science.

How to get involved:
Send a brief bio to Aileen Penner (aileenpen@gmail.com) stating your subject interests/fields of study and why you want to collaborate.
