City Conversations: The Lost Pleasures of Social Eating

Eating

Day:  Thursday, June 6, 2013
Time: 12:30-1:30pm
Place: Room 2270, Harbour Centre, 515 West Hastings St.
Cost: Free

Take-out lunches. Heat-and-eat meals. Restaurant dinners with more buzz than conversation. Eating alone with the TV, or Twitter. For many, even if we’re rejecting fast food, we’ve abandoned the social rituals of breaking bread with friends or family. Does healthy eating involve more than nutrition?

To start the conversation, we have Eric Sannerud, an urban farmer from the Univ. of Minnesota; Brendan Chan, a student at UBC majoring in food and environment, and Sarah Carten, a community nutritionist at Vancouver Coastal Health who works with the Vancouver School Board. Then it’s your turn. You’re welcome to bring your tasty lunch.
