Summary: Are you currently working or volunteering in community or international development programs? Are you thinking about exploring work in either field? With a focus on local and global opportunities, this workshop presents two dedicated and experienced speakers who have founded charitable organizations, provided extensive community-based services, and have supported many volunteers and staff to best serve the communities they work with. This session explores critical questions for volunteer or employees working in community-based international or local programs:

• What qualities make an effective volunteer or employee in the area of international and/or local development?
• How does one balance the needs of a volunteer with those of a community?
• What are some best practices in the field of development, and what advice will help volunteers to become effective and supportive change-makers?
•  What are some critical challenges that a volunteer/staff could face in the field, and how should one address these challenges?
