What is the Knowledge Project?
Children, families, households, and communities have important knowledge for children to be successful. These may be called the existing “funds of knowledge”. The Knowledge Project is a UBC research project focused on studying the knowledge of the Victoria-Fraserview community of East Vancouver in order to create engaging out-of-school programs.
Working in collaboration with Tecumseh Main Elementary School, Tecumseh Annex Elementary School, David Thompson Community School Teams, and South Vancouver Neighbourhood House, the UBC Knowledge Project will be launching an after-school program for children in grades K-7 in June, 2013. These June programs, build around themes of sustainability and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), prioritize identified student funds of knowledge.
Programs are scheduled at Tecumseh Main Elementary on Mondays and Wednesdays, and Tecumseh Annex on Tuesdays and Fridays from June 3 through June 25, 2013.
