RESEARCH ASSISTANT (CLIMATE PROTECTION)

(Auxiliary)

The Engineering, Parks & Environment Department requires an auxiliary Research Assistant (Climate Protection) for approximately 15 weeks commencing May 2013.

With your proven commitment to environmental protection and sustainability, you will assist with key programs and projects related to the City’s climate protection goals.  You will compile and analyze data from various sources, research best practices, and prepare reports and submissions.  You will also complete research to identify climate change impacts to the City of North Vancouver, assist with stakeholder engagement activities, collaborate with City staff and community members in developing preliminary climate adaptation actions, and assist with other programs and projects.

You will have completed graduate or undergraduate courses in environmental science, engineering, public policy, business, or planning.  You will have a proven ability to research and interpret information and prepare reports.  A sound knowledge of research methods, techniques and practices is required along with excellent knowledge of spreadsheets and statistical and analytical principles.  Strong writing skills and exceptional interpersonal skills are required.  In addition you must have a valid class 5 BC Drivers License.  Some evening/weekend work may be required.

Salary:
$28.14 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits
(Pay Grade 21 – January 2011 rates)

Hours of Work:
9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday

This position is partly funded through a grant from the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions (PICS).  Therefore, applicants must meet program criteria, which includes being currently registered as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at one of the four PICS partner institutions:  University of Victoria, University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, or University of Northern British Columbia.  Students must be intending to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.
