The First Nations Technology Council (FNTC) is a not-for-profit organization mandated and passionate about providing technical services, support and training to First Nations communities and organizations in British Columbia.

About the Opportunity

Currently FNTC is searching for a full time Community Engagement Specialist in West Vancouver, BC.

Working in close collaboration with the Director of Information Management, you will assist in creating a positive “end-user” experience in support of the development of the Integrated Information Management System for First Nations communities in British Columbia.

Ensuring that First Nations perspectives are given the highest priority in all design, development and implementation phases of the system, you will:

  • Support the development of a 3–5 year business plan for the Integrated Information Management System;
  • Facilitate an in-depth requirements analysis by working directly with ten First Nations communities until March 31st, 2013 (prototyping phase), and moving to expand this group of communities is subsequent years;
  • Compile, analyze and present all community research and findings on a regular basis;
  • Utilize and follow the Rapid Application Development approach, ensuring that these principles are employed at all times.

Please apply if you have a post-secondary degree in a relevant field. We will also consider candidates with an outstanding combination of proven experience and knowledge. It will be considered an asset if you have experience in Microsoft SharePoint development and design.

Proven experience working with First Nations communities on the ground and remotely is a must. The successful candidate will have a high level of knowledge of First Nations community data management, with a strong comprehension of the complexity of First Nations community data.

You will do well in the role if you have excellent research and analytical skills, paired with superior communication skills, both in written and verbal situations. The ability to thrive under pressure with multiple deadlines is paramount to this role, as is having a highly driven and self-motivated persona.

You will be a step ahead of the rest if you have previous experience working in a First Nations community, specifically in a social development or education setting. Previous experience with deploying province-wide initiatives and knowledge of Design Thinking and/or User-Centered Design would be a definite asset.
