Community Program Manager

Location:              Head Office

What you’ll be doing:

  • Managing this program as per our Community Involvement Policy; to Keep Space for Adventure by conserving ecologically and recreationally important places, and enabling and inspiring Canadians to be active outdoors
  • Coordinate community investments and budget of just under $3million annually through grants, partnerships and outreach to optimize impact and ensure 1% for the Planet compliance
  • Managing MEC national partnerships with outdoor recreation and environmental groups
  • Managing granting program, including national grant committee and contracts for approved grant applications
  • Supporting community and member outreach activities across the regional and store network (including regional partnership development , advocacy and outreach, etc.)
  • Facilitating the development and implementation of community involvement strategies and programs as appropriate
  • Co-ordinating communication and reporting activities with stores, Communication and Marketing Department, Board of Directors,  and external stakeholders
  • Mentoring and managing the Community Program Administrator role; supporting regional and store coordinators
  • Engaging employees and stakeholders in MEC in our Community Involvement initiatives Completing special projects as requested by the Director of Sustainability & Community

What you need to do it well:

  • Completion of post-secondary degree in related discipline (e.g. Environmental Studies, Outdoor Recreation, Management)
  • 5 years related work experience
  • Experience working with community based organizations in related sector (e.g. outdoor recreation or conservation). Preferably some experience in business context.
  • Knowledge of/experience related to grant making, capacity building and/or advocacy and outreach Project and people management experience
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to work in a fast-paced in environment
  • Superior English communication skill, oral and written.  French communications skills an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. You are an enthusiastic, influential leader with ability to engage and inspire others.
  • Strategic orientation and with strong delivery and execution to achieve outcomes.
