Help get the exciting new Great Northern Way Community Orchard off the ground! Evergreen and the Great Northern Way Campus are launching a community orchard project. Community Orchard Volunteers will help with building, orchard maintenance, harvesting, and public outreach.
What you bring: You work well with people and you’re willing to get your hands dirty and do physical work. You’re willing to work in some inclement weather. You’re energetic and creative, with an interest in organic food production and community development. Bring your own tools and gloves if you like.
When and where: Beginning in May 2011. Each gardening session will last approximately 2 hours. Great Northern Way Campus is at 555 Great Northern Way.
How we’ll support you: There will be ongoing training provided during garden group sessions. You will be supported by Evergreen staff at the site, and will be kept informed about the volunteer program through regular e-newsletters. We’ll have gloves, tools and water on site for you.
Perks: Learn the basics of fruit tree production in an urban setting and take some ownership of a new project that is just taking off. You’ll get to learn through doing and be part of a fun team.
Good to know: You’ll need to dress for the weather, as we work through some light rain. Sturdy shoes (closed toe) please, as well as a water bottle. Activities will vary depending on the season. You can get to the Great Northern Way Campus by walking, cycling or public transportation.
