The AIDS Awareness Network is hosting the 4th annual commemoration of World AIDS Day at the Burnaby Campus of Simon Fraser University. We are all affected, even if we are not infected.
Have a question about HIV, but have never had the chance to ask it? Want to know more about making safer sex fun? Come to World AIDS Day in Saywell Hall and speak with one of our Living Library HIV experts, attend the Safe Sex Workshop, and check out the organization and club booths in the AQ for more information!
The AIDS Awareness Network is organizing fun events and engaging speakers to commemorate World AIDS Day on December 1, 2011. On this day, people across the world will come together to raise awareness about HIV and related issues, and to show support for the millions who are living with HIV/AIDS. The AAN wants to work with the universal “Getting to Zero” campaign. Three target zeros: Zero AIDS related deaths, zero discrimination and zero people affected by HIV/AIDS in our community and globally; because we believe that HIV is everyone’s issue, no matter where you live.
The AIDS Awareness Network will be working together with the African Caribbean Heritage Student Society and the Health Sciences Student Society to bring an event better event than last year! Together we will be hosting fun fundraising events and a letter writing campaign to support HIV/AIDS Anti-retroviral drug access for all.
The day’s events will begin at 10:00AM with a welcome from the Faculty of Health Sciences, the AIDS Awareness Network and keynote speakers. Our Living Library will run from 11:00AM until 2:00PM, with special guests on hand to answer questions and discuss their personal connection to HIV/AIDS. We will be hosting several local organizations and on campus clubs in an information fair throughout the day until 4pm.
Through this event we hope to reach more students and help spread awareness about HIV/AIDS and stop the discrimination and stigmatization of those infected and affected by HIV.
We hope to see you there!
